Tripawd friendly hikes in Wales

SHORT ROUTES AND PICTURESQUE SPOTS

As someone who loves picturesque spots and travels with my older tripawd dog I often struggle to find hikes that will take me to amazing spots but that will be shorter than 5k so we can go there with my boy.

Luckily, Wales did not disappoint!

Here are my favourite older dog friendly (or tripawd-friendly) spots from our trip to Wales (Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia), all under 5k walks/hikes!

Llyn Idwal

Walk from Ogwan parking lot to the lake is only 1km long with plenty of more routes expanding from the lake including some local summits. The hike offers waterfalls and amazing views of Tryfan. Probably my favorite spot so far!

Length: 2km + (there and back)

Type of Trail: Stone Path

Aber Falls

Waterfall and a stream flowing through the rocks

Slightly longer hike but still doable and accessible with a trolley or a wagoon, and so so worth it! Described as Snowdonia’s most dramatic falls Aber Falls do not dissapoint.

Length: 4.8km (there and back)

Type of Trail: Hard-packed dirt trail

Cribyn

The only one on my list not in Snowdonia but in Brecon Beacons. I was searching for a mountains that I actually would be able to get to the top with Sorento and Cribyn was a perfect hike for us. Slightly steep at first but gets better higher up.

Start: Cwmcynwyn (bring coins for parking)

Length: 6km (there and back)

Type of Trail: Grass + Dirt trail

Llyn Padarn

Not so much of a hike but you can have an amazing and picturesque walk alongside the lake. Make sure you visit the Lone Tree while there (unless they decide to shoot the Witcher there again).

Length: 3km (there and back)

Type of Trail: Hard-packed dirt trail + Paved

Traeth Nefyn

Again, probably not much of a hike but a great walk on the beach or through the nearby golf course with a breathtaking view of the sea and hills wherever you look.

Length: 3km (there and back)

Type of Trail: Hard-packed dirt trail + Paved

So there you have it, fellow dog lovers and tripawd adventurers! These trails are just the tip of the iceberg for epic doggy days out in Wales. Whether you’ve got a three-legged furry friend or just a pup who needs a bit of extra love, these routes are total game-changers.

Honestly, the best part of traveling with your dog isn’t about conquering massive hikes – it’s about those magical moments.

My biggest advice? Don’t overthink it. Some days you’ll do 3km, some days maybe just 500m. Your dog doesn’t care about the distance – they just care about being with you and exploring something new.

Happy pawventuring, friends! 🐾
